Alamo Rent A Car

Transportation in Brasilito, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Alamo Rent A Car in Brasilito sits 500 meters north of The Westin Playa Conchal, toward Brasilito Beach. The address is 500 meters to Brasilito Beach from Hotel Westin Playa Conchal, Brasilito 50304. A map pin for that address is at 10.403767, -85.796748. The phone is +506 2242 7733. Rental questions and damage disputes also go to customer.service@alamo.cr.

North of the Westin

The office is placed on the short stretch between the hotel and Brasilito Beach. That 500-meter note is the clearest landmark in the address. It is more useful than a street name when the destination is this counter rather than a larger town center.

The same address is what a directions search uses. The pin sits at those coordinates, so a map search for the hotel plus the 500-meter note should land on the rental point rather than a general beach marker.

Driving in from the highway

Directions from the terminal follow the Interamerican Highway to Liberia downtown. From there the route uses Ruta 21 toward Liberia International Airport. Stay on Ruta 21 through Belén. Turn right onto Ruta 166 toward Tamarindo Beach and Flamingo. The office is then 500 meters north of the Westin Playa Conchal.

Those notes describe a highway approach. They do not describe local bus stops, parking lots, or walking times. A hotel shuttle or a taxi can use the same hotel landmark and the 500-meter offset.

What the counter offers

Hours shown for October 29 through November 4, 2026 run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Thursday through Wednesday. That is a six-hour window. A pickup or return timed for late afternoon falls outside those published hours.

Accelerated check-in is unavailable here. The touch-screen kiosk is unavailable. Skip-the-counter service is unavailable. During open hours, the rental starts at the counter rather than at a booth or a printed skip-the-counter agreement.

After-hours pickup and after-hours return are described as services that must be arranged in advance. They are available at some locations, not as an automatic part of every booking. An after-hours pickup can add steps that appear in the confirmation email. An after-hours return uses a named parking place and a key drop box.

Hotel delivery and collection

Delivery or collection has to be arranged before the rental starts. Hotels within 20 kilometers have no extra charge for that handoff. Beyond 20 kilometers, delivery or collection can still be arranged. The added cost may range from $20 to $150.

The 20-kilometer hotel range is the local no-charge option. Separate lines in the same policy cover pickup and drop-off at no extra charge between San José Airport and the city of Alajuela. They also cover Liberia Airport and any nearby Alamo location. Those airport transfers are not the same offer as a hotel handoff around Brasilito.

A hotel handoff is worth arranging when the stay is inside that 20-kilometer range and the timing is set before arrival. A farther hotel, a private address, or a late change sits in the paid range, or it may not fit the advance-arrangement rule.

One-way returns and the border

One-way rentals must be booked ahead and depend on availability. The one-way charge is paid when the rental starts. It cannot be prepaid. Choosing another Alamo office as the return point is a booking choice, not a change made at the drop box.

Driving inside Costa Rica is unrestricted. A trip into Nicaragua is not. A border vehicle exchange must be arranged at the time of rental, with at least three days’ notice. Only economy, compact, intermediate SUV, and standard SUV vehicles can be used for that exchange.

At the border the first agreement closes. A second agreement opens in the other country at the same rate. The exchange fee is $50. Returning to Costa Rica repeats the process and adds another $50. Renters who will not come back to Costa Rica need to say so when the exchange is arranged.

Who can drive and how the rental is paid

The minimum age is 21. There is no maximum age. Drivers from 21 through 24 pay an extra daily fee. The renter needs a valid, unexpired driver’s license from the country of residence. Temporary permits and renewal papers are not accepted. A major credit card in the renter’s name is required when the car is taken.

American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa are the accepted card brands. The card must be in the renter’s name. Debit cards and cash can settle a remaining balance at the end. They do not replace the opening credit card. A security deposit plus the estimated rental cost is taken at the start. The deposit is $500 for every vehicle category.

International visitors may drive in Costa Rica on a foreign license for up to 90 days. A longer stay requires an International Driving Permit. An IDP is recommended when the license is not in English or Latin characters. A license in a non-Latin script, such as Chinese, Arabic, or Cyrillic, requires an IDP or a notarized English translation.

Every additional driver must meet the rental requirements, come to the rental counter, and show a driver’s license. An extra driver can be added at any Alamo location in the same country, including after the rental has started. The fee is $5 a day. When the renter is a Costa Rican citizen, the additional driver must have the same credit card category as the main driver.

Fuel, protection, and roadside help

Fuel has three choices. Prepaid fuel covers a full tank at 5 percent under local fuel prices. The tank can come back empty, and unused fuel is not refunded. If the company refills, the price per gallon is higher than local fuel prices and a 50 percent surcharge applies. Returning the car full avoids those fuel charges.

Collision Damage Waiver–Theft Protection is optional and is not insurance. With it, the company contractually waives all or part of the cost of damage, loss, or theft during the Costa Rica rental, unless the agreement’s invalidating acts apply. Tire and windshield protection is included. The collision deductible can reach $1,000. The theft deductible can reach $2,000.

The Alamo Protection Package combines that waiver, tire and windshield protection, deductible protection, and third-party liability at a discounted price. It is not insurance. No deductible applies. The company then waives responsibility for damage, loss, or theft of the vehicle and, up to the policy limits, for third-party damages and injuries in Costa Rica. Acts listed on the agreement can still invalidate that coverage.

Most auto policies from outside Costa Rica do not cover driving here. Liability cover bought on a third-party travel site is not an acceptable substitute. Local staff are not qualified to judge a personal auto policy. A renter who declines both the waiver and the package after showing acceptable proof of current coverage in Costa Rica stays responsible for the full value of damage or loss. A further authorization of $500 plus the estimated rental cost is then taken. A renter with a card from a Costa Rican bank who declines the collision damage waiver must show written proof of coverage for the rental vehicle.

Roadside assistance applies when it is selected and paid for at the start. It then runs 24 hours a day with no further charge for the included services. Those services are towing unrelated to an accident, flat-tire help, lockout service if the keys are inside the car, jump-starts, and fuel delivery of up to 5 gallons or the equivalent in liters. If no inflated spare is on the car, it is towed. Tire damage past repair from driver neglect stays with the renter. Lost keys, including a remote, are not covered. Replacement is $500 and is added to the agreement.

Toll-pass devices are available with a rental from this location. Like roadside assistance and a protection package, a device is a selection on the rental rather than standard equipment on every car. Damage questions after the trip use the same phone and email as the Brasilito office.
