Banana Wind Cafe

Restaurant in Playa Flamingo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Oceanfront tables on Flamingo Beach Road

Banana Wind Cafe sits inside Margaritaville Beach Resort Playa Flamingo on Flamingo Beach Road, in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste. Indoor dining and an outdoor oceanfront patio face the Pacific. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner can stay close to Flamingo’s sand, mountains, and mangroves. The kitchen cooks in a coastal Central American style, using seafood, grass-fed beef, and organic herbs and vegetables.

The cafe is one of four restaurants and bars on the resort’s all-inclusive dining plan. That plan covers three daily meals and snacks here and at 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar & Grill, Capriccios Pizza Bistro & Cafe, and License to Chill Pool Bar. It also covers restaurant and bar gratuities and unlimited house-brand beverages and spirits.

Some dishes carry a moderate up-charge. Takeout is not part of the plan. Children aged 0 to 5 eat free when they dine with a paying adult and order from the children’s menu.

Seafood, platters, and the kids' list

Seafood is the center of the savory menu: fresh fish ceviche, a classic fish sandwich, and corvina a la plancha. The traditional platter to know is arroz con camarones. House-made desserts are tres leches, flan, and chocolate coconut cake. Cheeseburgers, chicken strips, and quesadillas are the kid favorites.

Breakfast is its own morning service, with Costa Rican and familiar plates on the same menu. The Pura Vida platter pairs fried eggs with shredded chicken, gallo pinto, fried cheese, avocado, and corn tortillas. Huevos rancheros come with black beans, salsa criolla, avocado, pico de gallo, queso fresco, and tortillas. Eggs Benedict is served with bacon, an English muffin, lime hollandaise, and flamingo potatoes.

An egg-white omelet comes with spinach and cheese. Pancakes arrive with local fruit, honey, and Chantilly cream. Eggs any style come with bacon, flamingo potatoes, and toast. Those plates let a mixed table stay together. One person can order corvina. Another can take a cheeseburger. A child can stick to quesadillas.

Breakfast, the midday pause, and dinner

The cafe is open daily. Breakfast runs from 6:30 to 10:30. A second window runs from 12:00 to 21:30. That leaves a pause after breakfast. An 11:00 hunger window is better filled at the pool bar, which is limited to hotel and day-pass guests, or by waiting until noon. If you arrive in the late afternoon, call +506 2654 4444 and ask whether the kitchen is still serving lunch or resting before dinner.

Early breakfast is the practical play in Playa Flamingo. The beach is at its most comfortable before the Pacific heat peaks, and 6:30 seating leaves a full morning on the sand. Lunch from noon fits after a swim. Dinner here ends earlier than Capriccios or the rooftop grill, so Banana Wind suits an evening that ends with a walk on the beach rather than a late pizza sitting.

Overnight guests can walk from rooms and suites that face the garden, pool, or ocean. Anyone coming from elsewhere in Playa Flamingo approaches on Flamingo Beach Road at the Margaritaville campus. Plan the meal as a beach-road stop, not a trip into Santa Cruz town.

How Banana Wind compares on the same property

Use Banana Wind when you want the oceanfront patio, Costa Rican seafood, and a single room that does breakfast through dinner. Use Capriccios when dinner should be gourmet pizza, freshly made pasta, and salads. That room opens at 18:00 and keeps a pizza-only menu from 22:00 to midnight, after Banana Wind has closed.

Use 5 O'Clock Somewhere for rooftop dining with panoramic resort and ocean views. It serves hand-crafted cocktails, beer, and a full food menu from noon. After 22:00 the room shifts to drinks only. Use License to Chill when you want to stay in the pool. It opens at 10:00, serves snacks from 11:00 to 18:00, and is limited to hotel guests and day-pass guests.

Room service is a fifth path, daily from 6:30 to 21:00, with the Flamingo burger, ceviche, salads, and sandwiches delivered to a room or suite. It is not included in the all-inclusive plan.

A simple rotation works for a few nights in Flamingo. Use Banana Wind for most breakfasts and at least one seafood lunch or dinner. Save Capriccios for a pizza night. Take the rooftop grill for a later evening. Use the pool bar on the day you barely leave the water.

Building the rest of a Flamingo day

Playa Flamingo is a beach-first village. Mornings belong to the sand and the bay. Afternoons often shift to shade, the pool, or a slower patio lunch. Banana Wind’s 6:30 opening is early enough to eat before a snorkeling or fishing morning. The noon reopening catches people coming back from the water. Because dinner stops at 21:30, keep this cafe for the main evening plate and move to Capriccios or the rooftop if the night will run later.

Residents from around Santa Cruz and visitors staying outside the resort can use the same logic. Come for the patio and the coastal plates. Time breakfast before 10:30, and treat noon as the start of lunch. The all-inclusive rules above apply to prepaid resort guests. Diners paying as they go simply order from the menu.

For the patio, bring sun coverage. Come from the beach in something you are comfortable sitting in at a table. If a child will use the kids’ list, the free-meal rule is only for ages 0–5 with a paying adult and the children’s menu. Credit cards are accepted, and meals are table service.

Phone, address, and all-inclusive extras

Reach the cafe through the resort at +506 2654 4444 or 1-866-403-1911 from the United States and Canada. Email is info@margaritavillecr.com. The address is Flamingo Beach Road, Margaritaville Beach Resort Playa Flamingo, Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica.

Selected menu items can carry a moderate up-charge on the all-inclusive plan. Takeout is billed separately, and mini-bar items in the rooms are extra. Indoor or oceanfront patio seating is the draw. So are ceviche, corvina, arroz con camarones, a full breakfast, and a kids’ list that keeps a family at one table.

After you pick a table, walk the beach road, then decide whether tonight stays here or moves to the rooftop grill. If pizza is the late plan, Capriccios starts at 18:00 and keeps a pie menu until midnight. Put breakfast on the calendar for 6:30 if you want sand time before the heat.
