Casa de Iluminación
Tourism Service in Brasilito, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
Casa de Iluminación sits high in the Mar Vista gated community, in the hills above Brasilito and Playa Flamingo on Costa Rica's Guanacaste coast. Finished in July 2021, the roughly 5,000-square-foot house is a five-bedroom whole-home rental for groups of up to 16. West-facing windows look over a private infinity pool to the Pacific, so late-day light and sunsets are built into the layout.
This is a private rental home rather than a hotel. Daily life gathers around an open kitchen and living room, a pool terrace, and a downstairs apartment. The beaches of Brasilito and Flamingo are a short drive, not a walk, which shapes how you plan meals, beach time, and evenings on the hill.
Bedrooms, kitchen, and how the house is laid out
Five bedrooms each have an en-suite bathroom and a king bed. One bedroom includes a laddered loft with two twin beds; another has a full-size pull-out sofa. The master suite is upstairs, with an integrated open-concept bathroom, an enclosed toilet room and shower room, a double-sink vanity, a TV, and two ocean-view balconies. One balcony has seating; the other has a soaking tub and a sun deck.
A separate apartment sits down a staircase from the pool deck. It has its own sunset terrace, a kitchenette with a refrigerator, a living area with a Smart TV and a pull-out sofa, a king bedroom with a work desk, and an en-suite bathroom. That split works well when two households travel together and want a little separation without booking two properties.
The main floor is open-concept: living room, a large dining table, and a chef kitchen with an oven, dishwasher, gas stove, and side-by-side refrigerator. Sliding doors open onto the ocean-view terrace. Air conditioning runs throughout. Fiber-optic Wi-Fi, a washer and dryer, lockboxes, and Samsung TVs with Netflix in every room come with the house. A welcome supply typically includes coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, toilet paper, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, hand soap, laundry detergent, and dishwasher tablets.
Stairs connect the two-story main house and the apartment; there is no elevator. Quiet hours run from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Smoking, pets, and parties are not allowed. Children are welcome. Arrival is from 3:00 p.m., with departure by 10:00 a.m. The property needs your arrival time in advance, and arrivals after 6:00 p.m. can carry a late-check-in fee.
Pool terrace, outdoor cooking, and sunset hours
The main terrace is the social center of the house. An infinity pool sits with sun loungers against the ocean view. Covered lounge seating and a fire pit occupy the shaded side. An outdoor dining table seats about ten, with a Bali-style BBQ and a mini fridge nearby, so cooking can move outside without leaving the view. The indoor kitchen sits next to that BBQ area. A garden with flowers faces the apartment terrace.
West-facing glass and wall-to-wall sliders keep indoor and outdoor space connected. Evenings naturally gather on the deck for sunset, then dinner at the outdoor table or the indoor dining room. Because the house is sized for a large group, decide early who cooks, who uses the apartment kitchenette, and whether you want a private chef for a night or two after a long travel day.
Mar Vista, security, and shared community spaces
The villa sits inside a gated community with 24-hour security and an alarm system. Full-time maid service is part of the stay. Hiking and biking trails in Mar Vista are free to use. Two lighted clay tennis courts and six pickleball courts are available for an extra fee, as is a gym with a yoga palapa. Gracia, a family-friendly Latin bar and grill in the community, has an ocean-view setting; that restaurant area also has an infinity pool, jacuzzi, and swim-up bar.
Mar Vista is still an active development, so daytime construction noise can occur. Drones are prohibited as a privacy rule of the complex. The home is meant for responsible groups, not events.
Beaches, towns, and a day on this stretch of coast
From the hills you are a few minutes by car from Brasilito and Flamingo, with Playa Conchal, Playa Potrero, and Flamingo Marina close enough for an easy outing. Brasilito Beach is about 1.7 miles away. Tamarindo Airport is roughly ten miles out; Liberia's Daniel Oduber international airport is about an hour's drive. Las Catalinas, a car-free coastal town, and livelier Tamarindo make realistic half-day trips.
A group day often splits. Morning can stay at the house for coffee on the terrace, a swim, tennis, or a trail walk, then a drive down to Flamingo for the marina, a catamaran, or lunch in town. Conchal Beach and Brasilito's shoreline are close enough for an afternoon without a long transfer. Evenings work well back at the villa because the view faces west. If you would rather not cook, Gracia is in the community; Flamingo and Brasilito have more restaurants a short drive away.
Fishing, snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, and boat time are the usual mix around Flamingo. Concierge staff can arrange airport transfers, car or golf-cart rentals, tours, grocery stocking before you arrive, private chefs, and in-home massages. For a group of 16, pre-stocked groceries and a chef on the first night take pressure off after a Liberia or Tamarindo transfer.
Choosing a large villa and moving around Guanacaste
When you compare hillside villas around Brasilito and Flamingo, start with sleep math and stairs. Sixteen guests here means five kings plus loft twins and sofa beds, not sixteen identical rooms. The downstairs apartment helps if grandparents, a nanny, or a second family want their own terrace and kitchenette. Anyone who cannot manage stairs should look at single-level homes closer to the sand.
A car is the difference between a secluded hill house and a stranded one. Beach access is not walkable, and grocery runs, restaurants in Flamingo, and beach days all assume you can drive. Dry-season days are hot and bright on a west-facing terrace; green-season afternoons often bring rain, which makes the covered lounge and indoor dining more useful.
A refundable security deposit of $1,500 is held before check-in and released after departure if no damage is reported. Cards are accepted; cash is not. Staff languages include English, Spanish, and German. Pack for sun, stairs, and a mix of house time and beach time: reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes for rocky entries, and whatever you need for the soaking tub or the master sun deck. If you want a crib, a high chair, or a detailed grocery list, arrange it before you fly.
For residents hosting visiting family, a villa like this keeps everyone under one roof without filling a hotel block in Flamingo. For visitors, it is a base for Conchal, Potrero, and marina days, with sunset and the pool as the reason to come home early. Match the house to how your group actually sleeps and cooks, then use the car to stitch Brasilito, Flamingo, and the rest of the coast into the week.
