Flamingo Adventures
Tourism Service in Playa Potrero, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
Flamingo Adventures is a day-tour operator serving Playa Potrero and the neighboring Gold Coast beaches of Guanacaste. Franco Carozzi founded the company in 2004. It now offers more than twenty tours, from short ATV loops to multi-day stays around Rincón de la Vieja, and arranges pickup from Potrero, Playa Flamingo, Brasilito, Playas del Coco, and Tamarindo.
Groups are capped at fourteen, a workable size for families and small friend groups who want one operator for both dirt roads and Pacific time. Meeting points change with the activity. ATV and UTV trips head into the hills, while jet skis have been staged on the sand in front of the Westin Conchal and along the coast from the Flamingo Marina Resort. Match the outing to where you sleep so a three-hour ride does not become a half-day transfer.
A tour desk for the Potrero and Flamingo coast
Playa Potrero and Playa Flamingo sit a few minutes apart and work as a single base for mixed land-and-water days. Flamingo is a long white-sand beach with little shade and surf that can run rough, better for walking and photos than for small children in the water. Potrero’s bay is calmer, on darker hard-packed sand, and is the easier swim. Day visitors often park along the Flamingo beach road; take bags with you.
If you are choosing among Gold Coast tour desks, favor an operator that already picks up at your village, keeps groups small, and can move you from an ATV morning to a boat afternoon without sending you to a second company in Tamarindo or Coco.
ATV, UTV, and beach-to-mountain days
ATV tours are the backbone: guided rides through mountains and beaches around Guanacaste, including a three-hour Flamingo Beach ATV outing and longer loops that visit several beaches. A six-hour format includes bottled water, ATV safety equipment, a tandem-rider option, and a lunch stop, with the meal paid separately. Children can ride tandem on those longer loops.
UTV and buggy tours cover similar terrain in side-by-side vehicles. The Top of the World tour runs about three and a half hours to viewpoints and beaches. Rentals are available if you already know the roads and want a machine without a full guided itinerary.
Decide first whether you want a short scenic loop, a full afternoon with a soda stop, or a combo that adds zip-lining or a wildlife visit. Closed-toe shoes, sun protection, and a light long-sleeve shirt handle dry-season dust and green-season mud. Pickup at a gated villa matters more than a central meeting pin on a map.
Catamarans, snorkeling, fishing, and jet skis
Water activities include catamaran cruises, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet-ski outings, surfing, sport fishing, and kayak fishing. A catamaran afternoon pairs well with a lazy morning on Potrero sand. Jet-ski time from the Westin Conchal beach or the Flamingo Marina Resort shoreline is convenient if you are already in Conchal or Flamingo. Sport fishing and kayak fishing suit anyone who would rather work inshore water than board a large charter.
Snorkeling and scuba from this stretch of coast often head toward the Catalina Islands, with early marina starts typical for two-tank dive days. A rash guard is more useful than extra cotton. If you have only one ocean day, swim Potrero while the bay is quiet and keep Flamingo for a late walk on the white sand.
Parks, wildlife, rivers, and volcano country
Inland, the company runs national-park tours, a Palo Verde nature cruise on a river safari, animal tours, zip-line activities, whitewater rafting on the Tenorio River, Rio Negro river tubing, and horseback riding to Chorreras and Victoria Waterfall. Multi-day packages last two days and one night, four days and three nights, or seven days and six nights, with Hacienda Guachipelín and a Rincón de la Vieja experience among the featured inland stays. All-day volcano trips and Nicaragua day tours are also on the calendar.
These leave Potrero early. Palo Verde is a wildlife-first river day. Tenorio rafting is physical. Zip-line and tubing fit a Rincón de la Vieja mountain schedule. Nicaragua needs passports and border time; it is a poor fit the day before a Liberia flight.
Eating after a dusty ride or a boat day
Potrero’s tables run from sodas to the sand. Soda Marcell, Soda y Restaurante El Estero Azul, Soda El Coco, and Soda Brasilito are the casado-and-Imperial stops. Brisas, the Sailing Center, and The Beach House sit on the beach; The Shack, Maxwells, and Perlas sit a little farther off it. Sushi is in the village if you want a quieter plate.
In Flamingo, a'lo Nico, Surf Box, and The Beach House cover an easy lunch, while Coco Loco, Angelinas, and Maries work for dinner. Mar Vista, high on the ridge, is the sunset lookout with a pool bar. Conchal and Brasilito add La Casita Del Pescado, Camaron Dorado, Don Brasilitos, Indira, and La Locanda Pizzeria along the shell beach. Playas del Coco is the nightlife alternative—Zi Lounge, Coconutz, Father Rooster, Lizard Lounge—if you have a ride home. Tamarindo, farther south, is a full evening of its own, from La Bodega at breakfast to Pangas or El Be!
on the sand and Flying Bull or Bamboo Sushi Club in town.
A six-hour ATV day with a lunch stop goes more smoothly after a real breakfast in Potrero. Save the nicer dinner until you have rinsed off the dust.
Shaping the day and booking the right outing
Stay in Potrero or Flamingo for short transfers on ATV, UTV, jet-ski, and catamaran days. Tamarindo and Coco work for a volcano or Palo Verde outing and are less ideal for a three-hour buggy loop. Choose ATVs if everyone wants a machine, UTVs when you want conversation and children in a side-by-side, and boats when the Pacific is the point.
Useful details to settle up front are pickup time at your door, hours actually on the machine or the water, tandem seats for children, and whether the lunch stop is a restaurant pause. For rafting, tubing, and scuba, get age and swimming minimums. For animal tours, get a clear picture of how close the wildlife encounter is. Fourteen is the group ceiling.
Hours run 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Reach the desk at +506 8704 1685 or info@flamingoadventures.com with your hotel, dates, and whether you need a tandem seat.
A clean Potrero day is a dawn swim in the gentle bay, a mid-morning ATV or Top of the World UTV while the roads are firm, a casado in the village, then rest on Potrero’s dark sand or a late walk on Flamingo. Keep Tenorio, Palo Verde, or Rincón de la Vieja as their own full day with an early van. One inland day and one water day is enough to see beaches, forest, and volcano country without stacking a rafting put-in and a sunset catamaran on the same clock.
