Flamingo Marina Resort
Hotel & Accommodation in Playa Potrero, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
A Beach-Town Base in Playa Flamingo
Flamingo Marina Resort sits in Playa Flamingo, in Santa Cruz canton on Costa Rica's Guanacaste coast, close to the pale sand of Flamingo Beach. This is a Gold Coast village built around a wide bay and a working marina, a practical base for residents running weekend errands and visitors who want the beach and dinner on foot. English and Spanish are spoken, and the property is smoke-free.
Air-conditioned rooms come with housekeeping. Many include kitchenettes, coffee and tea makers, in-room safes, flat-screen TVs, private balconies, and bathrooms with showers. Ocean-view rooms, suites, family rooms, and non-smoking rooms are offered. Outdoor pools with sun loungers, free self-parking, and WiFi in public areas complete the core stay. Breakfast is available. A roundtrip airport shuttle runs for a surcharge. Pets are not allowed. Children are welcome, though extra beds and cribs are not available.
Check-in begins at 15:00 and continues until 22:00, with later arrival only when space remains. Check-out is before 11:00. The front desk is staffed from 08:00 to 22:00. American Express, Mastercard, and Visa are accepted.
Rooms, Pools, and Everyday Comforts
A kitchenette changes the rhythm of a Flamingo morning. Coffee and fruit in the room mean you can reach the sand while it is still cool, then eat a proper breakfast later in town. After you arrive, pick up drinking water, bread, and a few staples in Flamingo or neighboring Potrero, and see what cookware and refrigeration the stovetop setup actually includes.
Two outdoor pools offer a midday pause when Pacific glare is strongest. Sun loungers sit with the pools. Tennis courts, barbecue facilities, and babysitting are available if your group needs them; mention a court, a grill, or evening childcare when you reserve so the timing is clear. Because cribs and rollaways are not offered, families sharing a suite or family room should bring a portable sleep solution for infants.
Housekeeping and complimentary toiletries cover the reset after the Liberia-to-coast drive. If you want a ground-floor room, a particular bed layout, or a balcony, request it when you book. Ocean-view rooms reward anyone who will actually watch sunrise from the room. If most days are boat charters or park tours, a suite with a door between living and sleeping space is the more useful upgrade, especially with children.
Liberia Airport, Parking, and Local Roads
Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia is about 19 miles away, typically under an hour by car. Nosara Beach Airport is about 33 miles and is rarely the better arrival point for this bay. Free self-parking makes a rental car the easy choice if you want Conchal, Tamarindo, or an inland day without waiting on taxis. The paid airport shuttle fits travelers who will stay in the Flamingo and Potrero pocket and walk to dinner.
The village is compact. Restaurants, Marina Flamingo, and the Monday moonlight market sit within a few minutes on foot, which is the real advantage of this address: you can park once and not drive after dark. Potrero lies just north; Brasilito and Conchal lie south and still reward a car or a prearranged ride. Roads into town are paved; from May through November, afternoon rain can slow smaller connectors.
Time the first night around the desk. An afternoon international arrival can still make 22:00 if you clear immigration and drive without long stops. A morning arrival pairs with 15:00 check-in and a first swim. If you land late, keep dinner short enough that you still reach the desk before it closes.
Beaches, Boats, and a Full Day on the Bay
Flamingo Beach is the reason people pick this village: a broad, walkable strand with swimming that is usually gentler than the open breaks toward Tamarindo. Go early. Midday sun in Guanacaste is harsh, and shade on the open beach is scarce. The marina a few minutes away stages sportfishing, snorkeling, and diving trips across this stretch of Pacific water.
A day that fits the location is unhurried. Coffee in the room, a beach walk or swim, then a late breakfast nearby. Midday belongs to the pool or a rest behind closed curtains. Late afternoon is for the marina, a second swim, or the light on the bay. Dinner is close—Amigos Tacos y Beer, Surf Box, Angelina's, and Hazel's Steak & Seafood all sit in that short-walk cluster, covering Mexican, casual American plates, pizza, and steak and seafood. Mondays add the moonlight market for produce and small stalls.
Potrero is the quieter shoreline if you want fewer vendors. Conchal, reached through Brasilito, is the crushed-shell cove many visitors save for a half day; leave in the morning and return to Flamingo before sunset. Golf at Reserva Conchal is a short drive if that is on your trip. Las Baulas National Marine Park, toward Playa Grande, is the turtle-season outing, timed to nesting months rather than squeezed into a first jet-lagged evening.
Choosing Lodging on the Gold Coast
Lodging around Flamingo splits into in-town hotels you can walk from, quieter Potrero stays, condo and villa rentals in Cabo Velas, and larger resort campuses toward Conchal and Papagayo. Stay in town if your days mix swimming, a boat charter, and restaurants without a transfer for every meal. Take a villa if you need several bedrooms and a full kitchen. Look farther up the peninsula if you want an all-inclusive campus.
Flamingo Marina Resort belongs to the in-town, beach-adjacent group. Kitchenettes help independent travelers. Family rooms and suites help groups, especially when extra beds are not an option. Ocean-view rooms help anyone who will be on the balcony at the edges of the day. Free parking plus a rental car helps if you will split time between Flamingo and Conchal; the shuttle helps if you will not.
When you book, get the bed count, what the kitchenette contains, and whether the pools, tennis court, and barbecue area will be open on your dates. If you need the shuttle, get the price and the pickup time for your flight. Peak season runs December through April, when the weather is dry and rooms go early around holidays and winter breaks. May through November is greener and quieter, with afternoon rain that rarely lasts all day but can affect boat schedules and dirt spurs.
Pack reef-safe sunscreen, a refillable bottle, insect repellent, and a light rain layer in the green season. Water shoes help on shell and rock beaches. A small cooler earns its space if you will shop and cook. Leave pets and smoking out of the plan. Keep the 08:00 to 22:00 desk in mind so luggage and questions do not arrive after closing.
For a two-night hinge between Liberia and the rest of Nicoya, use Flamingo as a swim-and-sleep stop: land, walk the beach, eat in town, continue the next day. For a week, treat it as a hub—beach mornings, one boat day, one Conchal or park day, and nights on foot. Either pattern suits this stretch of Playa Flamingo when arrivals respect the desk hours and bags are out by 11:00.
