Las Catalinas Beach Club

Tourism Service in Las Catalinas, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Las Catalinas Beach Club is the gathering place of Las Catalinas, a car-free beach town on Playa Danta in Guanacaste. The club sits on a bluff overlooking the sand and the Pacific. A footbridge links it to Plaza Las Terrazas, so a swim, a meal, and a walk through town can share one loop. The village sits between Playa Danta and Playa Dantita. It is about 6 kilometers north of Playa Potrero, 8.5 kilometers from Playa Flamingo, and 19 kilometers south of Playas del Coco.

On the bluff above Playa Danta

Come here for lanes, shade, and lunch without leaving the village. The club is a hub for swimming, dining, and exercise, not a hotel tower. It stands on Sugar Beach Road, plus code F6J7+3QF, inside a pedestrian grid of narrow streets, plazas, and overlooks. After a swim you can continue on foot to the beach or the forest trails.

Plaza Las Terrazas is the usual approach from town. Paseo del Mar and Paseo de los Niños meet there under almendro trees. The footbridge is the last stretch. From a Beach Town home that walk is the whole trip. From El Prado or from outside the gates, you still finish without a car.

Pools, gym, and lounge deck

Swimming is the center of the club. A 25-meter, four-lane lap pool, half-Olympic length, is set up for serious lengths. A lounging pool and a kids' play pool keep adults and families in separate water. A hot plunge pool rounds out the group. The deck holds lounge chairs and plenty of seating.

An exercise room with weightlifting and cardio equipment sits on the same property. A swim and a gym session can happen in one visit. That combination is the reason to climb the bluff instead of walking straight onto Playa Danta. The ocean below remains the place for boogie boarding, snorkeling, kayaks, and paddleboards. The club is the freshwater, lane, and shade option in the heat of a Guanacaste day.

Restaurant, bar, and the pavilion

The Beach Club restaurant serves all day. It operates as La Taquería, a family-friendly kitchen for fresh, Latin-inspired plates. A cocktail bar sits on the terrace. That pairing works as a lunch stop after a bike ride. It also works as a table while children move between the play pool and a meal.

An octagonal pavilion is available for private events. Use it when a group wants a birthday, a hosted dinner, or a small gathering without taking over the main deck. Arrange the pavilion on its own rather than treating a day pass as a reserved room.

Access, passes, and busy weeks

Club entry is not automatic. Some vacation homes include Beach Club and gym access. Others sell daily passes, and space can run out. Adult day passes cost $30 USD plus 13% VAT, with $15 redeemable on food and drink. Child passes for ages 8 to 12 cost $15 plus VAT, with $10 redeemable. Children under 8 enter free, with limited access.

A swim-and-gym pass costs $20 plus VAT for a morning-only window, often 7:00 to 10:00. Full-day access is often 7:00 to 20:00, though hours vary. During Holy Week, mid-year vacations, Christmas, and other dates management sets, the club may admit members only. If you are not staying in a home that includes access, arrange the pass before you walk up from the beach.

Walking, parking, and a day in town

Las Catalinas is built so you park once. A community lot and valet take cars at the edge of the pedestrian core. Some homes have limited vehicle access, but Beach Town streets are for walking. Parking on the main road is prohibited. Golf carts and bicycles cover short distances after you park.

On foot, the club is one stop in a small downtown. Beach Town Village holds parks and plazas and more than half a dozen restaurants, including a corner deli and a beachfront restaurant. Shops sell clothing and home goods. There is a day spa, an outdoor exercise gym, and Pura Vida Ride. The shop rents mountain bikes, stand-up paddleboards, and ocean kayaks.

Plaza Escondida on Paseo de los Niños is a shaded rest with a fountain children use to cool off. Plaza Andalucía opens toward Plaza Lucia with another fountain and seating. The Beach Club is the pool block in that same walk.

Around town, about 42 kilometers of trails run through tropical dry forest. They serve hiking, running, and mixed use, including more than 22 kilometers of singletrack for mountain biking. Monkeys, coatis, and deer live along those routes. On the water, Playa Danta's protected bay suits beginners on kayaks and boards. Snorkeling concentrates on rocks: the far side of Playa Dantita, the reef between the two beaches, Punta Penca, and the Islotes Pitahayas just offshore.

Dry season brings sun, warmth, lower humidity, and wind from the east, with cooler nights. Green season often means clear mornings, afternoon showers, and strong sunsets. In both seasons the club is most useful from late morning through the heat. Save beach and trail time for the ends of the day.

Pairing the club with beach and trails

Choose the club when you want lanes, a kids' pool, a gym, and a meal on the bluff inside a walkable town. Stay on the open beach when you only want salt water and no pass. Many people do both. Start with early lengths or a gym session, walk the plazas, eat at La Taquería or another table in the village, then head to Danta for the afternoon swell.

For families, the play pool and the restaurant make midday easier than staying only on the beach. For athletes, the four-lane pool plus the trail system is a strong reason to base here rather than at a conventional resort. For a group, the pavilion and the cocktail bar give you a private corner without leaving town.

Pack sun protection, a cover-up for the restaurant, and whatever you need for the beach below. Bring a way to pay for food and drinks above any redeemable pass credit. Private transfers and rental cars can be delivered to properties in town. Taxis are harder to find, and buses run on limited routes. After you arrive, leave the car in the lot. Make the day a loop from Plaza Las Terrazas across the footbridge, down to Playa Danta, and back through town before the evening breeze.
