Link Expeditions Costa Rica
Tourism Service in Brasilito, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
Link Expeditions is an expedition design team led by Costa Rican naturalist and educator Alberto Salas, working from the Brasilito side of Guanacaste's Gold Coast. The company builds private trips for families, couples, friends, coworkers, and other small groups who want nature and culture at their own pace. Days depart from Tamarindo, Conchal, Brasilito, Flamingo, Potrero, and Las Catalinas, then reach inland forests, volcano country, and the Tempisque River.
Private days suit people who prefer their own group over a mixed coach tour. You can book a single outing or a full week. Mix a half-day hacienda morning with a longer rainforest drive, or stay near the water with snorkeling and horseback time. Bring ages, hotel location, and how far you want to travel inland. That is enough to see whether a custom day fits the rest of your Gold Coast plans.
Start With a Short Planning Call
The first step is a complimentary video or phone conversation, usually 15 to 45 minutes, with Alberto or a senior expedition advisor. The call is meant to match pace, interests, group size, and budget before anyone commits. You can also talk through airports, regions, seasonal weather, packing, and transportation. There is no obligation to book.
If you continue, a personalized proposal with a draft itinerary and cost breakdown follows within 24 to 48 hours. Hand over a full week or only a few selected days. Journeys are expert-led and private, with the team handling planning and logistics so the group can focus on the day itself. Useful questions include who needs a shorter walk, who wants time in the water, and whether lunch should stay local after the outing.
Ride With Sabaneros, Then Cook in a Fonda
The Sabanero Cattle Drive and Guanacaste Fonda Experience, starting at $223, is a half-day cultural outing at a working hacienda. Guests ride in the style of Guanacaste cowboys, help herd cattle, then step into a traditional fonda. There they cook over a wood-burning stove, grind sugarcane, and brew coffee the Costa Rican way. Corn dishes such as rosquillas and empanadas belong to that kitchen, set among rolling pastures, dry tropical forest, and volcano views.
The Chorotega Heritage and Coffee Experience starts at $236. Costa Rica's Blue Zona Cultural Experience starts at $284. Both fit travelers who want more time with food, coffee, and community than with motorsports or long hikes. These mornings leave the afternoon free for a Brasilito beach, which helps mixed-age families keep the day from running too long.
Spend a Full Day in Bijagua and Volcano Country
The hanging bridges, sloths, and cultural activity day near Bijagua starts at $214. It is a full-day private outing, so plan it away from arrival and departure. The first stop is hanging bridges in Heliconias Reserve, a private nature preserve. El Pavón bridge is posted at 95 meters long, 30 meters high, and a capacity of eight people.
A separate location focuses on three-toed sloths in their habitat. Guests then choose a hands-on corn tortilla or empanada class or a coffee and cacao tour. The team adjusts the pace for wildlife and rest. The walk is moderate and is not suitable for travelers with mobility challenges.
A related Bijagua day of authentic Costa Rican cooking, wildlife, and coffee and cacao starts at $209. An expedition to a sloth preserve and the Río Celeste waterfall starts at $194. A camera-trap and wildlife discovery experience starts at $225. La Leona waterfall, for hiking, swimming, and exploring beside Rincón de la Vieja, starts at $164.
A hot springs, waterfall, and river float experience starts at $273. A Buena Vista adventure day combines hot springs and culture. Inland destinations often sit between 45 minutes and about two and a half hours one way. One of these days is usually enough for a week on the coast.
Stay Closer to Brasilito, Conchal, and Flamingo
Shorter Gold Coast options stay nearer Conchal, Flamingo, and Potrero when you want less time in the car. North Pacific beach snorkeling starts at $33, as does a hands-on intertidal zone and tide-pool marine life session. Both follow the tide, so morning or mid-tide windows matter more than a round number on the clock. A private snorkeling boat tour from Flamingo starts at $204.
Horseback riding near Flamingo, Conchal, and Brasilito starts at $150. Riding the beach and swimming with horses near Playa Conchal starts at $135. An ATV adventure through beach and countryside starts at $119. Ziplining in Coyolito and ziplining through a howler-monkey canopy each start at $70. A Tempisque River boat ride paired with a rum or beer tour starts at $243.
A coastal discovery tour searching for howler monkeys, quieter beaches, and local life near Flamingo starts at $65. That morning can include interpretive walks at the mangroves of Punta Pelencho. Seasonal fruit such as rambután, mango, or jocote is part of the morning, along with snacks, bottled water, and a caldosa sample. Lunch is left for a local soda afterward.
A scenic coastal running tour of 3K to 10K near Flamingo starts at $33. ATV and horseback days run hot on the pampa, so closed-toe shoes, water, and sun protection matter. These shorter outings leave room for a late swim at Brasilito or a quiet walk on Potrero at low tide.
How the $5 Conservation Fee Works
Each tour contributes $5 per participant to The Linking Forests Fund, which holds money until it can finance biodiversity projects. The first focus is mountainous central Puntarenas, especially El Cerro near the Monteverde Reserve. That area sits near the Children's Eternal Rainforest and the Alberto Manuel Brenes Biological Reserve, inside the Pájaro Campana Biological Corridor.
Land selection favors parcels next to existing protected areas, habitat for threatened species, community benefit, and clear legal title. The long-term aim is a private reserve named Unión Verde. Donations and sponsorships are also possible.
Shape a Week Around Heat, Tides, and Drive Time
Brasilito is a practical base for the Central Guanacaste coast. Conchal is the shell beach. Look, photograph, and leave shells where they are, because they shelter hermit crabs and break down into sand. Flamingo offers white sand, a marina, and snorkeling along the south edge at mid tide. Potrero is a long strand for low-tide walking.
Penca and Prieta work for swimming and snorkeling when the ocean allows. Dantita is a shorter, more private pocket. Punta Pelencho looks toward Loros Island. Tamarindo and Playas del Coco sit about 40 minutes away when you want a busier evening. Liberia's airport is the usual arrival point.
The climate splits into a dry season and a green season. Five to seven days is a comfortable length: two beach-centered activities, one cultural hacienda morning, and one longer inland rainforest or waterfall day. Match the outing to energy. Cattle drives and fonda kitchens work well for mixed-age families who want a half day. Hanging bridges and Río Celeste need more walking and a full day on the road.
If someone in the group has limited mobility, skip the Bijagua hanging-bridge walk and look at boat, coastal, or kitchen-centered days. Pack a hat, reef-safe sunscreen, insect protection for forest days, and a dry bag. Carry small bills for lunch and optional tips when those are not in the package.
Keep the longest drive off arrival and departure days. Come to the planning conversation with hotel location, ages, and whether you want one signature excursion or a fully built week. Then leave the late afternoon open. A Brasilito sunset still fits after a half-day on the hacienda or a morning in the water.
