Patagonia del Mar
Restaurant in Playa Flamingo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
Patagonia del Mar is a spacious seafood and international restaurant in Brasilito, a few steps from the shore of Brasilito Bay and a short drive from Playa Flamingo. Ocean views, lounge seating, and a swimming pool reserved for dining guests shape the setting, while the kitchen stays open from breakfast through late-night drinks. A wine store and art on the property give the stop more than a single plate, whether you are in town for the week or moving between Conchal and the Flamingo marina.
Dining on Brasilito Bay, next to Playa Flamingo
Brasilito is the bay town between Playa Flamingo and Playa Conchal on Guanacaste's northern Pacific coast. Patagonia del Mar is at 100 meters north of the Brasilito plaza, close enough that the Pacific is in view and close enough to town that you are not eating inside a resort. That geography is why many Flamingo and Conchal stays land here: the drive is short, the room is a full restaurant rather than a hotel corridor, and the bay is the backdrop.
Lounges sit with the regular tables, and the swimming pool is open to guests who are dining. Families and friends are the intended crowd. Credit cards are accepted, which simplifies a mixed table after a cash-heavy beach morning. You are a few steps from the shore, not on the sand, so a cover-up is more comfortable than arriving dripping from a swim.
From Playa Flamingo the trip is a few minutes down the coastal road. From Playa Conchal you already pass through Brasilito. From Tamarindo it is a longer run and works best as a planned lunch or sunset dinner. The real choice is the kind of meal you want: a marina-side evening in Flamingo, or a bay-town table with a pool and a wide menu.
Seafood, sushi, grill, and breakfast on one menu
The kitchen is seafood and international at once. Ceviche is the natural Pacific starter, and lobster appears among the fish plates. Sushi, sashimi, and nigiri give the table a raw option without a second stop. Steaks, including sirloin, and hamburgers cover the grill. Empanadas and other Argentine dishes, pasta, and schnitzel sit in the same spread, so a mixed group does not have to agree on one cuisine.
Breakfast and brunch start at 07:00. Eggs Benedict is among the morning plates; huevos rancheros and other egg dishes belong to the same daytime stretch. Arroz con pollo is there if someone wants a familiar Costa Rican lunch instead of sashimi. Vegetarian-friendly and gluten-free options are part of the menu, which matters when one person is eating around restrictions and the rest want steak or sushi.
Drinks follow the same all-day clock: juice in the morning, sangria and cocktails later, and wine from the store on site. Chocolate cake is the dessert if you want to finish at the table. Decide the job of the meal first—early breakfast before Conchal, long lunch after a swim, or sunset dinner—then pick a lane. Ordering from more than one category is normal here. Sharing ceviche and sushi, then splitting a steak or lobster, is a practical pattern for two to four people.
Pool, wine store, and the pace of a visit
The pool is for dining guests, not a public swim club. If Guanacaste heat is the problem you are solving, plan a lunch or an early dinner and use the water between courses or after you eat. Lounges make that pause comfortable. Children and adults can stay on the property instead of splitting between a restaurant and a hotel pool.
The wine store is a second function. Visitors cooking some nights in a Flamingo or Brasilito rental can eat here and leave with bottles for a later evening. Art is part of the room. Late-night drinks run with the rest of the day, and the 22:00 close is late enough for a meal after a sunset boat trip without turning the night into a hunt for a bar. Brunch, lunch, and dinner share the same 07:00 to 22:00 clock, seven days a week.
Building a Flamingo, Brasilito, or Conchal day around the table
A day on this coast usually has three moving parts: the beach, an outing, and a meal that does not add a long drive after dark. An 07:00 breakfast works before a quiet walk on Conchal, when the shell beach is still empty. Midday lunch works after snorkeling or a boat from Flamingo, when shade, a pool, and a long menu matter more than speed. Sunset dinner is the third slot: enough light to see Brasilito Bay, then a slow meal as the heat drops.
If you are staying in Playa Flamingo, Brasilito is the next town, not a separate trip. Swim in the morning, come down for lunch, and return to the marina for an evening walk. If you are staying toward Conchal, the restaurant sits on the Brasilito approach, so lunch does not require a loop through Flamingo. Larger groups—families, friends off a tour, mixed ages—fit a spacious dining room better than a tight beach bar. For a table of that size near sunset, set the time aside in advance.
Name vegetarian or gluten-free needs when you sit down so the kitchen can steer you. Ask what fish came in that day if you want the seafood lane at its best. If half the table wants sushi and half wants steak, say so early; both are on the same menu.
Getting there and what to have in hand
Aim for 100 meters north of the Brasilito plaza, Brasilito, Guanacaste. The dining room is in Brasilito even when people describe the area as Playa Flamingo. Follow the bay and the plaza rather than the Flamingo marina. The coastal road thickens when day visitors move between Conchal and Flamingo, so leave a few extra minutes at midday and near sunset.
Hours are 07:00 to 22:00 daily. Holiday weeks around Christmas, Easter, and Costa Rican school vacations make Brasilito busier even when the clock does not change. Earlier breakfasts are quieter; a late-afternoon arrival catches the light on the bay.
Cards work here, which is not true of every stop on the same outing, so still carry colones for fruit, beach vendors, and small town purchases. Bring a cover-up if you are coming from the water, plus sun protection and a hat if you will sit as the afternoon turns. Swimwear belongs under clothes if you want the pool, and a meal belongs on the table if you want the pool at all.
Choose a Brasilito dining room like this when the table needs range: sushi next to steak, eggs at 07:00, wine at dusk, and space for a long meal. Choose a small soda on the sand when you want one plate and your feet in the water. The two styles are a few blocks apart. Match the restaurant to the rest of the day, then sit down with the bay in front of you.
