Potrero Glamp
Hotel & Accommodation in Playa Potrero, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
Potrero Glamp is a small, family-run glamping property on five hectares in Playa Potrero, Guanacaste. Three independent domes sit in the hills a few minutes from the Pacific, each set up as a self-contained stay rather than a hotel room. The stay is built around sleeping, cooking, and sitting outside on a private deck, then driving down to the beaches that make this part of Costa Rica worth several days.
Private domes built for a self-contained stay
Each dome holds a maximum of four people and is furnished with two queen beds. Air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a private bathroom with shower, a private jacuzzi, an equipped kitchen, and a private deck come with the unit. You are not sharing a bathhouse or walking to a central lodge for meals.
The kitchen is what separates this stay from a typical beach hotel. A supermarket stop in Potrero or Flamingo covers breakfast and a simple dinner on the deck. The jacuzzi and deck belong to each dome, so evenings can remain on the hillside. Decks take in views from the property, which sits in the mountains with the sea only a short drive away.
With only three domes, the place stays small. Two families traveling together can take two units. A couple or a family of four can use one. The two-queen layout is the figure that decides whether a single dome is enough.
Beaches and towns within easy reach
The property is about three minutes from Playa Potrero and Playa Penca, the closest places to swim. From the same base you can reach Playa Flamingo, Las Catalinas, Playa Prieta, Playa Pan de Azúcar, Brasilito, Playa Conchal, Zapotal, Playa Grande, and Tamarindo, as well as Playa Danta, Playa Dantita, Playa Matapalo, Playas del Coco, and Playa Panamá.
Potrero has restaurants, supermarkets, and everyday shops nearby, which is what makes self-catering realistic. Flamingo adds Marina Flamingo and another cluster of places to eat. Tamarindo sits farther along the coast and works as a longer outing. Closer coves such as Penca, Prieta, and Pan de Azúcar fit a shorter afternoon if you want to be back at the dome before dark.
The same radius includes Diamante Eco Adventure Park, Costa Rica Sailing Center, and The Congo Trail. Those half-day trips pair with a kitchen on site: leave after breakfast, return to cook, and use the jacuzzi when the afternoon heat eases.
Timing, seasons, and booking
Reservations go through WhatsApp at +506 8704 1105. Rates change by season and by weekday versus weekend. Lower-demand periods sit at the bottom of the scale; vacation months such as July and December rise; Christmas, New Year, Easter, and long holidays sit at the top, with one rate across the week. A Monday-to-Thursday stay outside holiday blocks is the straightforward way to spend less if your dates can move.
Check-in runs from 15:00 to 20:00, with checkout by 11:00. Match a Liberia or Tamarindo landing to that window rather than a late walk-up. Liberia’s international airport is the usual gateway for this part of Guanacaste, about 16 miles from the Playa Potrero area. Tamarindo’s smaller airport is closer for domestic flights.
Pets are not allowed, and smoking is not allowed. Four guests is the limit per dome. For a larger group, a second dome is the option, not extra beds in the same unit.
Getting around Playa Potrero
A car is the practical way to use a hillside stay here. There is no restaurant on the property. Beaches, supermarkets, and dinner are a short drive, not a walk from the domes. WhatsApp is also the channel for the last inland turn-by-turn, which matters after dark.
With a car, the geography is simple. Potrero and Penca are the closest water. Flamingo and Las Catalinas are the next towns along the bay. Conchal, Brasilito, and Tamarindo sit farther south as half-day or full-day loops. Playas del Coco and Playa Panamá lie in the other direction if you want a different bay.
Stock the kitchen on the drive in from the airport if you land in the afternoon and want the first night at the dome. Potrero and Flamingo both work for groceries and a sit-down meal when you would rather not cook.
Choosing a glamping stay in Guanacaste
Hillside glamping sits between a hotel room and a full vacation house. You get a kitchen, outdoor space, and a private jacuzzi, without a restaurant on site. It fits people who want to cook and keep evenings quiet. A hotel in Flamingo or Tamarindo fits better if you want dinner downstairs, a shared pool, or staff at all hours.
When you compare stays on this coast, weigh whether bathroom, kitchen, and outdoor space are private to your unit, how far you are from the beach you actually want, and whether you will have a car. Three minutes from Potrero and Penca is close enough for a daily swim and far enough that nights are in the hills. If the trip is centered on Tamarindo, lodging there cuts driving. If the trip is several beaches plus cooking, a Potrero dome is the more efficient base.
Which of the three domes you are assigned can matter if you care about layout, and two units together matter for a larger family. Pack swimwear, sun protection, and ingredients for at least one dinner. Guanacaste heat makes the air conditioning inside the dome useful at midday; beach time is more comfortable in the morning and after 15:00.
A day in and around Playa Potrero
Start at Playa Potrero or Playa Penca while the sand is still easy to walk. Come back to the dome for a lunch you cook yourself, and stay in the air conditioning through the strongest sun. In the afternoon, drive to Flamingo, Las Catalinas, or a farther beach such as Conchal or Playa Grande. Return for the deck and jacuzzi as the light drops, then cook again or go down to Potrero or Flamingo for dinner.
On a longer stay, keep one day entirely local, one day for Tamarindo or Conchal, and one day for a booked outing—sailing from the Flamingo area, Diamante Eco Adventure Park, or The Congo Trail. The property is a private, equipped place to sleep and cook between those loops, not a self-contained resort: three air-conditioned domes on a hillside above Playa Potrero, four people at most in each, and the nearby Pacific beaches a few minutes down the road.
