Purr Vida Lounge
Tourism Service in Brasilito, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
Purr Vida Lounge is Costa Rica's rescue cat lounge and adoption center, inside The Village Shopping Center in Brasilito, Guanacaste, next to CRIA International School and near Beach Chocolate Factory. Guests come to meet, cuddle, and adopt rescued cats while taking a quiet break from Playa Conchal, Playa Flamingo, and Tamarindo. Miss Meow, a Japanese-American baker living in Costa Rica since 2017, began by rescuing one abandoned kitten. Since 2024 the lounge has rescued more than 163 cats and placed more than 130 in homes.
Visits, adoptions, donations, and cakes all go toward the next rescue. The room is a calm, cozy tropical lounge, and sessions are reserved because spaces fill quickly. Monday and Tuesday are closed. Saturday and Sunday run from 10:00 to 15:00 Costa Rica time (GMT-6). Wednesday through Friday close at 17:00, while weekday opening times show as both 10:00 and 11:00, so confirm the first session when you reserve. WhatsApp +506 8715 8570 is the number to message with visit questions.
Timed sessions with rescued cats
The standard visit is Kitty Cat Cuddle & Relax. One hour costs $20 per person. Two hours cost $30 per person and suit anyone who wants to linger, read, play games, or sit with the cats. Homemade drinks and daily snacks by Miss Meow are complimentary. Drinks have included coffee, green tea, chai tea, kombucha, hot chocolate, and lemon tea. Treats have included grilled sandwiches, peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches, vegan ice cream, peanut butter cup ice cream, brownies, cupcakes, apple tart, and cheesecake.
A 90-minute cuddle session is also offered at about $30 if you want a middle length between a quick hour and a full two-hour stay. Private lounge rental is $200 flat for one exclusive hour, used for girls' trips, family gatherings, team building, wellness retreats, birthday celebrations, and other small occasions. Cuddle visits are kept to small groups, with a maximum of 12 on booked sessions, and children through adults are welcome.
Guests remove shoes to enter, so socks are practical. Let cats approach on their own terms, keep voices low, skip running, and leave the room tidy. Photos and video are welcome.
Cakes, gifts, and ongoing rescue work
Baking is part of how the cats are fed. Custom cakes are welcome, and proceeds go fully to rescue. Gift certificates cover a session for someone else. You can donate, sponsor, or volunteer, and there is a rescue-request path if you find a cat in need around Brasilito or the nearby beaches.
Cats in the lounge include kittens, teenagers, and adults waiting for homes. Meet them during a booked hour, then talk through health, personality, and adoption steps if one stays on your mind. Rescue work here has included kittens found in a box near Margaritaville in Playa Flamingo and taken to Cavallini Vet. Cashmere, who survived FIP treatment, became the first cat Miss Meow officially adopted from the lounge. A cuddle session is time with animals in active care, not a staged exhibit.
Little CEO is a Wednesday program for young entrepreneurs ages 8 to 16, held in eight-week late-afternoon blocks for local families. Short-stay visitors will usually want a standard cuddle session instead; residents can ask whether a round is open.
Parking and the Conchal-Flamingo-Tamarindo loop
Free parking is in The Village Shopping Center lot. Driving times are about five minutes from Playa Conchal, ten minutes from Playa Flamingo, and twenty minutes from Tamarindo. Brasilito sits between Conchal's beach and the Flamingo area, so the shopping center is a natural indoor stop on that stretch of coast.
From Conchal, the trip is short enough for a midday pause. From Flamingo it is a brief hop. From Tamarindo, allow the extra road time so you are not arriving as a weekend session ends. Weekend closing at 15:00 makes late morning the comfortable Saturday or Sunday window. Weekday afternoons run later and fit a two-hour visit after a morning swim.
The easy landmarks are the international school, the shopping center, and the chocolate shop. Leave a few minutes for a stall in the shared lot, especially around school hours. Ride-hail works well for resort guests who do not want to drive; self-drive is straightforward if you already have a car for beach hopping.
Choosing a session and shaping the day
Pick length first. One hour is a focused meet-and-cuddle with a drink and a snack. Ninety minutes or two hours suit remote workers, couples, and families who do not want to watch the clock. Private rental is the right tool when you need the room for a birthday or a small group.
A rescue lounge rewards quiet, patient guests. Children are welcome when they can let a cat walk away, climb, or nap without being chased. If anyone has food allergies, mention that when you reserve so the day's drink and treat make sense. If someone in the party is uneasy around cats, choose another indoor plan.
A practical pattern is morning beach, a rinse, a reserved session, then lunch or a return to the water. Do not leave this for Monday or Tuesday. Rainy afternoons are an easy match: you already need an indoor hour, and the lounge is built for sitting still. Afterward, Conchal and Flamingo are close enough for late light on the sand.
Bring socks and a smaller bag than a full beach kit. Keep towels and sandy gear in the car when you can. If a particular cat interests you, keep a little time after the session to talk rather than rushing to a waiting shuttle.
Adoption, donations, and a day that helps the cats
Residents of Brasilito, Flamingo, Potrero, and Tamarindo can use the lounge as a regular stop: weekend mornings, weekday afternoons, cake orders for celebrations, and the chance to know cats until they leave for homes. Donations and sponsorships cover food and medical care on days you cannot sit in the lounge.
Travelers who fall for a kitten should talk early about veterinary records, whether a cat is ready, and what an adoption requires. Flying a cat out of Costa Rica involves crates, airline rules, and timing that rarely fits a one-week beach trip. Enjoying the session, donating, or ordering a cake is a complete visit; adoption is for people who can follow through.
Useful conversation includes which cats are available, what medical work is already done, what follow-up looks like, and how a cake or gift certificate supports rescue. Book the length of time you will actually use, take shoes off at the door, and let the cats set the pace. That is how a short detour from Playa Conchal or Flamingo becomes time well spent in Brasilito.
