Reserva Conchal Golf Course

Tourism Service in Brasilito, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Reserva Conchal Golf Course sits inside the Reserva Conchal community on Costa Rica's north Pacific coast, next to Playa Conchal and the village of Brasilito in Cabo Velas, Guanacaste. The 18-hole, par-71 parkland course is a Robert Trent Jones II design from 1997, created with Donald Knott and Gary Linn. It is the golf address for guests of The Westin Reserva Conchal, an all-inclusive golf resort and spa, and W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal, and for players who book a tee time with the golf club.

This is coastal Guanacaste golf: rolling land, ravines, lakes, tropical forest, and holes that open toward the Pacific. From the gold tees the course measures 7,021 yards, with a 74.9 rating and 137 slope. Blue, white, and red tees play about 6,558, 6,023, and 5,323 yards, so a mixed group can pick a length that fits the day. Fairways are Bermuda 419 grass; greens are Tifdwarf Bermuda. The season is year-round.

How the course plays

The first hole is a short par 4 of 317 yards from the gold tees that plays tighter than the yardage. A fairway wood or long iron is the better opening shot, because a ravine guards a shallow green on two sides. The fourth is the longest hole, a par 5 reaching 592 yards from the gold markers. The tee shot favors the left, a large tree complicates the second shot, and the green stays shallow, calling for a high approach.

Both nines move over rolling terrain. Ravines and lakes shape the strategy, so approaches into the Bermuda greens need to be precise. The tenth is a par 4 dogleg: a miss left is out of bounds, and the green is protected by hazards on all sides. The seventeenth is the signature par 3, 210 yards from an elevated gold tee, carrying water, with views of Conchal Beach and the surrounding mountains. The closing hole is a par 5 of 556 yards from the gold tees, with water in play and a chance to reach the green in two.

It is a former PGA Tour Latinoamérica host. Multiple tee boxes let you set the difficulty without changing the character of the routing. Match tees to how far you carry the ball in Guanacaste heat rather than to the marker you use at home.

Practice, rentals, and dress

A driving range, putting green, and pitching and chipping area sit with the clubhouse. Golf carts and rental clubs are available. The club accepts American Express, Visa, and Mastercard. Metal spikes are not permitted.

Wear collared shirts, socks, and proper golf attire. Jeans are not allowed. For a Guanacaste morning, pack a hat, sunscreen, and more water than a temperate-climate round usually requires. Heat and humidity on this coast change how the ball feels, so take a few extra minutes on the range before you commit to a tee.

Reaching Brasilito and reserving a time

The golf club is at Playa Conchal, Cabo Velas, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Reach it at (506) 2654-3034 or golf@reservaconchal.com. The community concierge is at (506) 2654-3000 and concierge@reservaconchal.com. Guests of The Westin and W Costa Rica can start with the hotel; other players can contact the golf club.

Brasilito is the village most maps use. Playa Flamingo, Tamarindo, and Playas del Coco are a short drive, which makes an early round realistic if you are staying along this pocket of the Nicoya Peninsula. Liberia (LIR) is the regional airport for Cabo Velas. From Tamarindo or Flamingo, a morning transfer is simpler than a rushed gate arrival.

Nearby comparison rounds include Hacienda Pinilla, about 30 minutes away, and the Four Seasons course, about an hour. Reserva Conchal is the straightforward choice when you are already on Playa Conchal or when your group needs rentals, a range, and a full 18 in one place.

When to play in Guanacaste

Golf runs all year. December through April is the drier stretch, with firmer turf and stronger sun. May through November is greener, with a higher chance of afternoon rain. Visitor season peaks from January through March; April through July is often quieter and still good for golf.

On this coast, a 7:00 or 8:00 a.m. start beats the heat. In the drier months a noon time is another window. Late morning, especially around 11:00 a.m., is the hottest part of the day. Morning wind off the Pacific is common, so keep an extra club in mind on exposed holes. Start early enough that the seventeenth's water carry is still a comfortable swing, then leave daylight for the beach.

A full day around Playa Conchal

Eighteen holes here sit next to one of Guanacaste's distinctive beaches. Playa Conchal is powdery white sand made of tiny shells, with turquoise water for a swim, a walk, or a slow cooldown after the round. On the same shoreline you can kayak, paddleboard, snorkel, or surf. Costa Rica's waves run year-round and often peak from May to September.

The Reserva Conchal community also has biking and hiking, a skate park, and a 98-acre wildlife refuge with wilderness trails, a tree nursery, Melipona bees, and periodic guided visits. Non-golfers in your party can spend the morning at the beach or the refuge and meet you afterward. The concierge can arrange water time, cultural outings toward Nicoya and the pottery town of Guaitil, or volunteer days that include reforestation and beach clean-ups.

Brasilito works for a simple meal in the village. Playa Flamingo and Playa Potrero are close if you want a harbor sunset. Tamarindo is the busier surf town for shops and a later dinner. National parks and other protected areas are a separate full-day plan, not a stop between nines.

Choosing a Guanacaste round

If you are deciding among courses on this coast, weigh a resort parkland layout with a water par 3 and ocean views against a longer drive to another club. Settle with the golf shop which tees fit your distances in the heat, cart and rental inventory for your group size, whether outside play is open on your date, and what time the starter wants you on the property. Then play the ball in the short grass, take in Conchal Beach from the seventeenth tee, and keep the afternoon free for the shells and the Pacific.
