Villas Pura Vibra
Hotel & Accommodation in Playa Potrero, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
Villas Pura Vibra is a small, quiet hotel of eight units in Surfside, a neighborhood of Playa Potrero on Guanacaste’s Gold Coast. The grounds sit about 600 meters from the gray-sand beach in Potrero Bay, a seven-minute walk to one of the calmer North Pacific shores, with lower currents and smaller waves than many beaches farther along the coast. A compact garden property and a swim-friendly bay make this a practical base for couples, families, and anyone who wants the water close without living on the sand.
Surfside sits apart from Potrero’s more local village center. That center is about a kilometer away, with restaurants and shops around the football field, and it is the way toward Playa Penca, Playa Prieta, and other nearby coves. From the villas, restaurants, bars, and supermarkets are within walking distance. An ATM is about two kilometers away, so it helps to carry some cash for small beach purchases after you arrive.
Bungalows, studios, and villas
Stays are split among three layouts. Bungalows sleep two and pair a king-size bed with a private terrace in the greenery, a desk, and a private outdoor-style bathroom. Each has air-conditioning, a fan, a fridge with mini-bar products, sheets and towels, and a safe.
Studios also sleep two, with a queen-size bed, private terrace, a compact kitchen, a desk, and a private bathroom in one open room. The kitchen basics are a coffee maker, fridge, and electric cooktop, along with air-conditioning, a fan, a TV, and linens. A child’s mattress can be added for an extra cost.
Villas work like small houses for up to four people. You get a private terrace, a separate equipped kitchen, a private bathroom, and two bedrooms, one with a full-size bed and one with two twins. The same kitchen basics, climate control, TV, and linens apply, and a child’s mattress can be added. With that extra bed, a studio can take a child as a third guest and a villa can sleep five.
Pick the layout by cooking and sleeping, not by the name of the unit. A bungalow suits two people who want a king bed and a more outdoor bathroom. A studio or villa kitchen is the better match if you want coffee and simple meals without walking out for every plate. Two bedrooms matter if you are sharing with children or another pair. When you reserve, say if you need the extra mattress and whether an outdoor-style bathroom is what you want.
Pool, bar, fire pit, and gardens
Tropical gardens give shade and cool air and draw monkeys, birds, iguanas, and other wildlife through the trees. The swimming pool is set among palms, with a maximum depth of 1.50 meters, deep enough to cool off, not a lap pool.
A small bar shack beside the pool is the daytime work table, the breakfast counter, and the evening drinks spot, with games for families and friends. Breakfast is served in four options between 7:30 and 9:30. Bar service runs from 10:00 to 22:00. Two barbecues are free to use, and a fogata area is there for a private fire, cooking, marshmallows at night, and watching animals in the canopy.
Artwork by local artists is displayed around the property. Painting classes and live-music paint nights happen from time to time. If you want the grounds for a private gathering, the hotel offers event packs and the option to privatize the space.
Practical extras include Wi-Fi listed at 200 Mbps up and down, private parking with an autonomous gate opened through a phone app, laundry as an add-on during the stay, and extra transportation such as an airport shuttle or local taxi contacts.
Pets on the property
Socialized pets are welcome if they stay on leash, waste is picked up, and any damage is covered by the guest. Resident animals include two dogs, Cala and Peter Tosh, and Jamming the pig, who is happiest when someone arrives with a mango.
Keep visiting animals leashed around the gardens, the pool, and wildlife. Walk dogs toward the beach or the village rather than treating the grounds as an off-leash yard. If you are traveling without a pet, expect to share paths with the resident dogs and pig.
A walk to Playa Potrero
The beach is gray sand with a local rhythm: shade trees, beachfront bars and restaurants, fishermen, dogs, and sometimes cows on the shore. It is a swimming beach and a place for children to play on the sand, with paddleboarding, sailboarding, and other water sports on the bay. Sunrise and sunset are the hours when the waterfront feels most alive.
A straightforward day starts with breakfast in that 7:30–9:30 window, a walk to the bay while the sand is still cool, midday in the shade of the pool, and an afternoon kilometer into the village for food around the football field. From the village you can continue toward Playa Penca and Playa Prieta. Evenings fit the poolside bar before 22:00 or a table on the beach.
Farther along the coast, Flamingo, Brasilito, and Conchal are within a few kilometers if you have a car. Liberia Airport is about 18 miles from Playa Potrero; San José is a much longer overland approach. If you want a shuttle from the airport, arrange it with the hotel rather than arriving without a plan. Self-drivers will use the on-site parking and the phone-app gate, which is especially handy after dark.
Pack for heat and for garden evenings: sun protection, something for insects, and shoes that handle village streets and sand. Basic electric kitchens favor simple groceries from nearby supermarkets, not elaborate cooking. Withdraw cash when you pass the ATM so small beach stops are easy.
Timing a Gold Coast stay
Guanacaste shifts between a dry season and a rainy season, and that choice shapes beach days, garden shade, and how full the bay feels. An eight-unit hotel fills bungalows, studios, and villas independently, so choose the layout when you book. Breakfast is a set morning window, not an all-day kitchen.
The property sometimes lends the pool for swimming classes for local children with CEPIA, a Guanacaste organization that works with families, and guests may join those sessions. Salvemonos focuses on howler-monkey habitat and crossing bridges in the area, which matters if the troops in the gardens are part of why you chose a leafy lot.
For a work-and-beach rhythm, desks in the bungalows and studios plus the 200 Mbps connection cover a morning of messages before the walk to the water. For families, the 1.50-meter pool and the calmer Potrero surf are the useful numbers; still keep children in sight around the fire pit, the road, and passing wildlife. Keep the day unhurried: gardens and pool in the heat, the bay at the edges of daylight, village plates around the football field, and a last drink at the shack before it closes.
